Dawkins on Christmas
How consistant is the athiestic wordview? Check out this excellent post by Dr. Mohler entitled “”Merry Christmas” – Richard Dawkins says more than he means.” Perhaps most of the conclusions that Dr. Mohler comes to are based on the fact that our culture does have Judeo-Christian foundations, but I believe there are other factors that go much deeper than that. I’ll save that for another post though.

“Just a hurried line… to tell a story which puts the contrast between our feast of the Nativity and all this ghastly ‘Xmas’ racket at its lowest. My brother heard a woman on a bus say, as the bus passed a church with a Crib outside it, ‘Oh Lor’! They bring religion into everything. Look they’re dragging it even into Christmas now!”’ —C. S. Lewis

“Infinite, and an infant. Eternal, and yet born of a woman. Almighty, and yet hanging on a woman’s breast. Supporting a universe, and yet needing to be carried in a mother’s arms. King of angels, and yet the reputed son of Joseph. Heir of all things, and yet the carpenter’s despised son. Oh, the wonder of Christmas.” Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)

My First Christmas Post
Well, I guess technically this isn’t really my post, but it is a thought provoking one by Joe Thorn. You can read “The American Christmas” here. Really, should we fight about the true meaning of Christmas or about the origins of Christmas, or should we try to live a life characterized by the Gospel that the Christ of Christmas came to give us? It may not be a great question, but I think it is a fair one.
Secession in Virginia?
No, the Confederate States of America has not been resurrected, but it is just as interesting a development for the Episcopalian Church in Virginia, and worldwide. You can read a brief article here.
Minimum Wage Increase?
Here is an interesting article from MSNBC about the proposed minimum wage increases in some states. Are there any small business owners out there who have thoughts on this?
Glossolalia
Check out the article here from The Times UK about tongue speaking. Any thoughts?

New Buy Books Page
Hey Everybody,
I am in the beginning stages of trying to put together some sort of book buying/book review web site. But until I get it done, please note there is a page now on my blog that you can go to Christianbook.com through my site. It is at the top of the page and says Buy Books Here. There is really no advantage for you at this time, other than you get to help a brother out financially. So if you are planning to buy a book from Christianbook.com please come on by and read the blog first, then use my link.
Thanks!

Not sure the difference between Sunni and Shiite Muslims? Check out this FAQ from Hugh Hewitt’s Townhall blog. I believe this should interest people on a political as well as religious level. Interesting information.

All societies of men must be governed in some way or other. The less they may have of stringent State Government, the more they must have of individual self-government . . . Men, in a word, must necessarily be controlled, . . . either by the word of God, or by the strong arm of man; either by the Bible, or by the bayonet. It may do for other countries and other governments to talk about the State supporting religion. Here, under our own free institutions, it is Religion which must support the State.Robert Winthrop, descendant of famous Pilgrim & Governor John Winthrop

Christian Game “Force for Evil”
Ok all you eschatological minded folk, here’s one for the Christmas stocking.
“Christian Video Game is a “Force for Evil” says the British “Times Online” article. My favorite quote:
Troy A. Lyndon, the chief executive of Left Behind Games, said: “The game is designed to be a classic battle between good and evil. We have deliberately censored the blood and it does not gratuitously depict death or violence. Left Behind is not taken from the Bible, it is a fictional story.”

“Men despise religion. They hate it and are afraid it may be true. The cure for this is first to show that religion is not contrary to reason, but worthy of reverence and respect. Next make it attractive, make good men wish it were true, and then show that it is. Worthy of reverence because it really understands human nature. Attractive because it promises true good.”
—Blaise Pascal, Pensées, #12/187.
